1 - Reflection on Previous I Search Experiences Entry 1 1. What are some of the previous research projects you have done? In the past, I’ve done a lot of research. Here are a few I remember: -Milton Hershey project (sixth grade) In this project, I had to research Milton Hershey, write a report on him, and create a poster. It was fun! I put actual chocolate on the poster. -Louisiana Festival project (seventh grade) This project was difficult. Most of my work was spent decorating the bulletin board. But I also had to write an essay. It was hard to find information on this. -Louisiana Game Board project (seventh grade) I really liked this project. I had fun creating the board. There was a lot of work though, so that was a down side. -Labyrinth project (eighth grade) I liked this project. I learned a lot about labyrinths. I had a lot of freedom, because I could share my own ideas. -Caucus project (eighth grade) This was a fun project! I liked writing the speech. I also enjoyed hearing about other candidates. 2. Based on these projects, what does research mean to you? Searching for information on a specific topic in a book, on the internet, or by speaking to a person with personal knowledge on the subject. 3. Describe one of your research successes or failures. Why was the experience positive or negative? I remember the Louisiana Board Game project well. We had to create questions about the material we had learned and incorporate it into a gameboard. It was hard to put together, but it was an overall sucess.
2 - Reflection on Webbing Process (due Tuesday, April 8)
1. I think the webbing process helped/did not help me find a topic because:
I got a chance to organize my thoughts and weigh the pros and cons of each research topic. I found it very effective and was able to narrow down my ideas until I could choose a topic.
3 - Why I Chose This Topic and What I Know About My Topic (due Tuesday, April 8)
1. Topic:
Bhuddism
2. Why you chose it:
I enjoyed our unit on Bhuddism, and I find the religion to be very interesting. I already know something from what we learned, but I'd also like to learn more.
3. What you already know about your topic: I know that Bhuddism was founded by a prophet named Bhudda. I know the Bhudda's story, and how he reached enlightenment. I know that enlightenment is the ultimate goal. I know that Bhuddists believe in reincarnation, and karma and dharma. I know that Bhuddism was an important religion in ancient India and China.
4 - Pre-Notetaking Activity - in class (due Wednesday, April 9)
1. Brainstorm a list of questions related to your topic.
Main question:
What is Bhuddism's history and beliefs?
Supporting Questions:
What are some of the reasons people covert to Bhuddism?
How was Bhuddism started?
What are some key points in the beliefs of Bhuddists?
When was Bhuddism founded?
When did Bhuddism become a worldwide religion?
Where was Bhuddism founded?
How quickly did Bhuddism spread?
Who was Bhudda?
Who were Bhudda's followers?
How was Bhuddism spread?
What is the central belief of a Bhuddist?
What makes Bhuddism unique?
What are some famous places, people, or works of art or literature associated with Bhuddism?
5 - Reflections on Pre-Notetaking - for homework (due Wednesday, April 9)
1. Describe how the pre-notetaking sheet helped you find both focus for your topic and research questions to investigate. Did you find it easy or difficult to create a fat question from your ideas? It was easy for me to find what I wanted to say, but difficult for me to put it into words. I found it helpful to organize my thoughts. I know this will help me when I need to research. It's easy for me to research specific details rather than to tackle the general topic as a whole.
6 - Search Log (due Thursday, April 10)
1. What have I learned today?
Today, I learned about Bhuddist beliefs. I learned more about Karma and Dharma, and how they relate to reaching Enlightenment and entering Nirvana.
2. What problems have I had?
I have a LOT of material that I want to cover, and I'm not sure if I'll have enough time.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
Do some of the work at home, or narrow down my topic.
4. What will I do next? I will move on to a new cluster and begin research on that.
7 - Search Log (due Friday, April 11)
1. What have I learned today?
Today I learned about Bhudda. Mostly, I learned about Buddha's ministry. I learned what a great leader Buddha was.
2. What problems have I had?
I really think it will be difficult to get specific information from a book. I'm not used to using books.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I'll just work on finding a good book.
4. What will I do next? I will continue research. And find a book. 8 - Search Log (due Monday, April 14)
1. What have I learned today? Today, I learned about the spread of Buddhism.
2. What problems have I had? None.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)? By continuing not to have any :)
4. What will I do next? Research some Buddhist art.
8 - Search Log (due Monday, April 14)
1. What have I learned today?
I learned about Buddhist art. And I also learned that databases can be very annoying.
2. What problems have I had?
I can't do my graphic organizer at home, because I don't have Inspiration.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
Work on it at school, and manage my time.
4. What will I do next?
Finish linking my bibliography to my notecards, and then start on my graphic organizer.
Mrs. DQ-I was confused about whether or not I was supposed to do this entry. I didn't see any assignments for Tuesday, but the assignment for Monday was repeated. So, I thought maybe there were some editing problems...? I did an entry anyway, just in case.
